Beautiful Time improves typography for fonts that do not support ligatures for time formats by replacing standard colons ( : ) with the ratio symbol ( ∶ , Unicode U+2236). The ratio symbol is vertically centered between the baseline and cap height, providing better visual alignment with digits.

Why Use the Ratio Symbol?

The colon ( : ) is designed to align with the baseline of text, which makes it appear to sit low when placed between tall digits.

The ratio symbol ( ∶ ) is vertically centered, providing proper optical alignment with numerals. This is the typographically correct symbol for expressing time ratios.
