About this plugin

Hello! Meet Otto.

Otto is a very special caterpillar who lives inside Figma. Otto is rather shy and avoids attention (especially if you look like a hungry bird).

No one quite knows how Otto burrowed his way into Figma. For years, Otto has survived by munching on discarded letters and words deleted from text boxes in Figma files.

Unfortunately for Otto, Figma developers aren’t big fans of bugs living in their software. So Otto does his very best to stay very hidden, living a quiet, calm life on the leaves of Figma’s gigantic node tree.

While Figma has countless users worldwide, few have actually seen even a glimpse of Otto in the wild … until today!

That’s because Otto has a secret superpower: He can type fast.

I mean, really, really, really fast.

Otto doesn’t like to brag about his special talent. But, if you ask him nicely to type something for you, he’ll do it. (While shy, Otto is always willing to help others.)

This plugin lets you send typing requests to Otto. Just use a special character to wake him up, then type in a single character that matches up to the words or sentences you want him to type out.

Otto types so quickly, you still won’t be able to see him — but you’ll definitely see the trail of letters he leaves in his wake.

Thanks to Otto, you can be more efficient with text: Avoid typing the same word or sentence manually over and over. (This also gives Otto some much-needed exercise.)

This plugin even helps the environment! Otto types exclusively with 100% recycled text letters from deleted Figma files. (Fun fact: Otto has one of the world’s largest collections of the word “Untitled” for some mysterious reason.)

If you have a question for Otto, please share it in the comments and I’ll see if I can get an answer from him. (Usually, I have to get Otto to type something such as ‘Hey Otto! What’s up?’ to get his attention.)

Finally, one minor FYI: Otto is usually very comfortable moving around in Figma, whether it’s a sticky note or a text box (he’s even been known to chew on the text in a connector arrow from time to time).

However, Otto is very skittish around code blocks and can’t wait to escape them (with so many coders hunting for bugs, I can’t blame him one bit). So if you ask him to type something in the middle of a code block, he’ll do it — but Otto will immediately dash to the end of the text. If you’d call this a bug … well, that bug’s name is Otto!
