About this plugin

This plugin is designed to simplify naming in Figma while maintaining consistency across your design projects. The goal is to make it easy to create naming conventions that can be effortlessly applied to your nodes, allowing you to batch rename them in no time. I hope you enjoy using it!

Just start typing: { and you get the list of variables in the UI.

Available Variables:

  • {width} - Replaces with the node's width.
  • {height} - Replaces with the node's height.
  • {layerType} - Replaces with the node's type (e.g., Frame, Rectangle, Text).
  • {layerName} - This placeholder will be replaced with the original name of the node as it is at the time of applying the naming convention. Note that if you apply a new naming convention to a node that has already been renamed with this plugin, {layerName} will refer to the renamed name of the node, not the original name the node had when it was first created. This is because {layerName} captures the name of the node at the moment you press the rename button, whether that name is the node's original name or a name generated by a previous use of the YouNameIT plugin.
  • {index} - Replaces with the index of the current node in the list of linked nodes.
  • {date} - Replaces with the current date in the format YYYY-MM-DD.
  • {alphabet} - Replaces with a letter from the English alphabet (cycles from a-z and then starts over) based on the node's index.
  • {fileName} - Replaces with the Figma file's name.
  • {weekNumber} - Replaces with the current week number.
  • {pageName} - Replaces with the name of the page where the node is located.
  • {sectionName} - Advanced Section Naming Feature: You can now specify particular sections in their naming convention using the {sectionName=number} syntax. For example, {sectionName=1} will replace this placeholder with the name of the first section parent of the node. This allows for more controlled and precise naming based on the node's position in the section hierarchy.
  • Cycling Through Section Names: In cases where {sectionName} is used multiple times but there are fewer parent sections than the number of placeholders, the plugin will cycle back through the section names. This ensures that all {sectionName} placeholders are filled, reusing the names from the closest section down to the furthest.

The legacy version is no longer available.

Happy renaming! 🎉
