About this plugin

Easily create thumbnails from almost any selection, without needing to manually wrap layers; in both Figma and FigJam.

Figma typically requires frames, components, component sets, or sections to create a thumbnail, but with Thumbnail Setter, you can select multiple layers or component instances, and the plugin will automatically frame them in the background before setting the thumbnail.

In FigJam, where only sections can typically be thumbnails, this plugin allows you to create thumbnails from any selection, even from instances directly within FigJam – without needing to predefine them in Figma (which was the only workaround).

How to use in Figma:

  1. Select the layer(s) you want as a thumbnail.
  2. Press Cmd+K (Mac) or Ctrl+K (Windows) to open the Action menu.
  3. Switch to the Plugins & Widgets tab.
  4. Search for "Thumbnail Setter" and run it.

How to use in FigJam:

  1. Select the element(s) you want as a thumbnail.
  2. Press Shift+I to open the Insert panel.
  3. Switch to the Plugins tab.
  4. Search for "Thumbnail Setter" and run it.

From now on, you can also use Quick actions (Cmd+K or Ctrl+K).

Limitation: The plugin won’t work if you select multiple layers, including a section. However, single section selections work fine.
