About this plugin

Finally, CMD/CTRL + R for variables!

CTRL Var was built to give you many of the same renaming features available for layers - for variables.

Easily view the variables in your collections, search results, and potential changes before updating.

  1. Scrollable list let's you see the full list and long path names.
  2. Change counts provided to help confirm the impact of the changes.

Search your variable tables

Use the search field to find variable names within a collection.

  1. Easily identify location, patterns, and inconsistencies.
  2. Search has no impact on changes - just a needed feature.

Set the scope of your name changes

Use the scope field to set a path to a specific group, which will limit changes to variables within it.

  1. Scoping must start from the beginning of the path to a group of variables.

Rename part of a variable's name

Use the match field to find a character or word to be replaced with something from the rename field.

Cut text before or after

Remove all text from before or after the matching text

Use the X → / X ← buttons or enter these short codes in the rename field:

  1. #!* (before)
  2. #*! (after).

Add incrementing numbers to your variables

Use the # ↑ / # ↓ buttons to enter ascending or descending numbers to matching variables names. You can also use these short codes in the rename field:

  1. #>> (ascending from top)
  2. #<< (descending to bottom)
  3. Use the number field to control which number to start or end with
  4. The number of < or > characters signifies the number of digits to be used. For example < is 1, << is 01, <<< is 001, etc.

Limitations

  1. Variables do not allow { } . $
  2. Variable names must be unique, no duplicates
  3. There is a chance the use of some special characters within your variables, such as # & < > * ! may have issues using certain short codes which contain those same characters.

Copy/Paste Figma Bug

If you copy/paste variables between collections, you may need to reload the tab in order for those variables to register in their new collection.
