A picture becomes shapes you can edit.Select a layer with a picture in it. Traceset reads the pixels, finds theoutlines, and writes them into your file as ordinary Figma vector layers —nodes with points you can pull, fills you can change, and paths you can join.Not an image of a shape. Your picture isnever uploaded, because there is nowhere to upload it to. The manifest declareszero allowed domains, and Figma prints that on this page beside thelast-updated date — so the person who approves plugins where you work canconfirm it without contacting me. Nothing to fill in on a securityquestionnaire, and no service that can go down and take the plugin with it.That is not a feature list item. It is the reason the plugin is built the wayit is: a picture on your canvas is often a client's logo, an unreleased screen,or a scan of something private, and none of that should leave the machine tobecome a vector.WHAT IT IS GOOD AT• Logos and marks• Cut-out PNGs, where the shape is held in the transparency• Line art and inked drawings• Screenshots, diagrams and UI captures• Flat illustration, where the colours are areas rather than gradientsHoles stay holes. A ring comes out as a ring, not a filled circle with anothercircle on top, because the outlines are wound the way a hole needs to be wound.A picture cut out on transparency has its shape in the alpha channel, not inits light and dark, so there is a mode that reads the alpha instead. A palelogo on a transparent ground is the one thing a light-and-dark tracer cannotsee at all, and it is also the most common thing anyone drops on a canvas.WHEN IT WILL NOT DO SOMETHING, IT SAYS WHICH SETTING WOULDAsk for light and dark on a cut-out and it will tell you the picture hastransparent parts and name the mode that reads them. Ask for transparency on apicture that has none and it will say so rather than handing you the rectanglearound it. A button that quietly does nothing is worse than one that explains.WHAT IT IS NOT FORPhotographs. A photograph has no outlines to find — it has gradients, and anytool that turns one into vectors is guessing where the edges should be. Otherplugins do that with a model on a server. This one does not do it at all, andsays so here rather than letting you find out.Colour tracing gives you as many areas as you ask for. Ask for a handful andsmall details will merge into what surrounds them. That is what reducingcolours means, and the preview shows you exactly what you will get.WHAT YOU CAN CHANGE• Shape by light and dark, Shape by transparency, or Colours• Cutoff — where light stops and dark begins, or how solid a pixel must be• Swap light and dark — for pale artwork sitting on a dark ground• Colours — how many areas to keep• Sweep specks — pull stray pixels into the area around them• Drop smaller than — leave the crumbs out, and say how many were left out• Straighten — how closely the outline follows each pixel step• Round corners — from every corner kept sharp, to fully rounded• Working size — how closely to read the pictureTHE PREVIEW IS THE OUTPUTThe picture in the panel is drawn from the same description that writes thelayers.
